If you love wine and you find yourself in Aarhus, Denmark
(hell, anywhere in Denmark, it's worth the trip) you must
go to Klassisk 65. This is a wine bar not too far away from
Aarhus's Central Station. The couple of rooms that make up
the place are intimate, homey and cozy, with wine bottles
and wine boxes stuffed into every nook and cranny.
The wait staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. My
friends and I were quite happy with the wine and port that
our waitress recommended. The group I was with on a chilly
Tuesday night in May asked our waitress when does the bar
close. We were happy to hear her pleasantly reply "When
the last customer leaves." What hospitality!
The best part of the Klassisk 65 experience is interacting
with its owner, Soren. If you are there you must engage him
in conversation about wine. Luckily this is what I happened
to do the other night. What followed was a great experience,
which of course included drinking more outstanding wine,
where Soren showed his deep passion for and knowledge of wine.
You could tell that he simply enjoys sharing the joy of a
great wine with others, as he talked intensely about the
structure, the flavors, and the fruit of the Molly Dooker
Shiraz that filled our glasses. This guy clearly loves wine
and I was impressed by and grateful for Soren's enthusiasm,
knowledge, generosity and hospitality. I must say that I
had a fabulous and memorable evening at Klassisk 65.
Again, if you are near Aarhus I would recommend that you visit
this wonderful establishment. I know that I will go back the
next time I am in Aarhus.
